WorkSafe-Accredited Occupational Safety & Health Representative Training

Aurenda runs WorkSafe-accredited introductory and refresher courses for Safety Representatives.

The courses are designed to provide the tools, skills, knowledge and information for participants to enable them to be competent in the role of Occupational Safety and Health Representative.

Five Day Introductory Course for Occupational Safety and Health Representatives

All elected Occupational Safety and Health Representatives are required to attend a five day introductory course.

The five day course covers the following:

  • Occupational Safety and Health legislation
  • Inspections and investigations
  • Hazard identification and risk management
  • Communication and representation
  • Conflict resolution
  • Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs)

Partial completion of Certificate III in Occupational Health & Safety (BSB30707)


The WA Health & Safety Representatives Course is closely aligned to 6 Units of Competency within the Certificate III of Occupational Safety & Health (BSB30707). These units are:

BSBOHS301B Apply Knowledge of OHS Legislation in the Workplace
BSBOHS302B Participate Effectively in OHS Communication and Consultative Processes
BSBOHS303B Contribute to OHS Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
BSBOHS304B Contribute to OHS Hazard Control
BSBOHS305B Contribute to OHS Issue Resolutions
BSBOHS307B Participate in OHS Investigations

As such, on completion of a workbook and portfolio of evidence within an agreed timeframe, and a successful competency assessment in all six units, a Statement of Attainment will be issued which can contribute towards partial completion of Certificate III in Occupational Health & Safety BSB30707. There is an additional fee for this assessment.

5 Day Course Participant Information July 2010

Two Day Refresher Course for Occupational Safety and Health Representatives

Elected Occupational Safety and Health Representatives will have previously attended a Five Day Introductory Occupational Safety and Health Representative course. It is recommended that this Two Day Refresher Course be attended every two years.

This course is also suitable as an introductory OSH course for Supervisors, Managers and Safety Committee Members.

The two day course covers the following:

  • The role of Occupational Safety and Health Representatives in the workplace
  • Improved communication and negotiation skills
  • Review of legislative provisions
  • The application of applicable Codes of Practice
  • OSH management systems
  • Improving consultation in the workplace
  • Safety action planning

Our courses are held in our custom-built training centre facilities at 136 Stirling Highway, Nedlands.

Participants will have all course materials supplied. All courses are fully-catered.
